REVIEW: Moulin Rouge - The Piccadilly Theatre ★★★★★

I managed to catch Moulin Rouge one last time before cast change, and I think it was even better since the last time I saw the show?

I spent so long not seeing this show, as I just couldn't afford it and also didn't want to spend the money on a ticket when I could get 5-6 tickets for the same price (thanks staff discount!), so I just couldn't justify paying the price for the tickets. However, now I've been to the show, I can absolutely see that it is worth every penny. It's not just the show which is spectacular, but the whole theatre is incredible. There's pre-show entertainment, with beautiful people dancing in cages, doing sword swallowing, and the theatre is full of red velvet, chandeliers, and a huge elephant and windmill.

So, I had to see the show again! Especially, since I knew it would probably be my last chance to see Jamie Muscato as Christian (I mean, why couldn't he just stay in the role forever??). Also, I can't believe we still don't have a West End cast recording with this cast? Who doesn't want Jamie Muscato singing El Tango De Roxanne in their ears 24/7?

I caught Melissa James as Satine this time, after previously seeing Vanessa Ela Young, who I thought was a brilliant Satine. I think the whole cast for this show is spectacular, and I think the new cast looks like it's going to be just as insanely talented (I mean, Charlotte Gooch as Nini is amazing casting!).

I love the whole show, and love that it's had a bit of an update from the movie to the stage show with newer songs, but still keeps the general plot line of the movie, which is fabulous too. However, I do know that not everyone is a fan of the film, but all theatre fans will probably love this show none the less. I think it's the kind of show that everyone can appreciate how much work, energy, time and dedication has gone into this job - just watching one song alone often has me floored, never mind all the cast dancing and singing the whole time! The choreography never gets old, with my particular favourites being Backstage Romance and El Tango Roxanne, both of which are so high energy and intense - I love them!

I just think this show has everything, and it's firmly up there as one of my favourite shows now. Again, why did it take me so long to see this show?!

Let me know what you think!
